((I talked to Nuh this morning about what he was planning with Nuhwoti and decided with him what would have been going on between him and Kal'theraa during his absence. Then I woke up tonight and decided to write this. :3))
Mal'valen lied in his bed in Brill, eyes staring up at the ceiling as the Mage beside him slept like he was dead. He furrowed his brow, thinking about what Trinea had said regarding Nuhwoti, though he'd tried not to overthink it. The Light would protect his dear friend and future brother-in-law, he was certain of that.
The Priest sighed, then blinked as his thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock at the door. "... good Light, it's pitch black outside," he murmured, pushing himself out of bed and pulling on his robes to answer the door.
"Who's there?" he asked softly through the door, hoping his "guest" would be able to hear him. He still hadn't discerned how light or deep a sleeper Aomaho was, so he didn't want to risk waking him.
His eyes widened slightly when he heard the response: "Kal'theraa."
Mal'valen slipped outside the room as quietly as possible, then closed the door behind him almost silently. He sighed and hugged his little sister, who greeted him with a hug in return. "He's safe..." she whispered, though she was trembling slightly.
The Priest blinked and pulled back, looking at Kal'theraa curiously. "I'm sorry?" he asked.
"You spoke to me just a moment ago... you asked where Nuhwoti was," the living half-Elf responded, raising one of her short eyebrows in confusion.
"... Did I?" Apparently, Mal'valen had been so deeply in thought, he had subconsciously spoken to Kal'theraa through a mental link, sending worried thoughts to her about his friend. "So you've been with him then? Oh Light, I'm glad to hear that..."
The Mage shook her head slightly and looked up at her brother with only a small hint of worry in her eyes. "No... Mal, that wasn't what I said," Kal'theraa murmured softly. "I said he's safe." She furrowed her brow and leaned in, resting her head on the Priest's chest. "I haven't seen him since he went to see Trinea during her capture... but he speaks to me every day."
Something else was going on, that much was for certain. The way his little sister trembled in his arms, Mal'valen couldn't help but continue to worry, despite being told that Nuhwoti was okay. "Do you know where he is?" he asked, which was met with a shake of billowing auburn curls as the girl buried her face in her brother's chest.
Sighing, Mal'valen pulled Kal'theraa back and looked her straight in the eyes. "If Nuhwoti says that he is okay, then we must trust him. He is not a man without judgment..." he murmured reassuringly. "The Light blesses and protects him, so I've no doubt that he'll be okay."
"... I want to find him, Mal," Kal'theraa whispered. "He keeps telling me not to come after him, to stay home and pray for him, and I do... but I miss him so much..." She leaned into Mal'valen again and cried softly, and the Priest did his best to comfort her.
"We'll figure something out..." he murmured. "For now... I need to get back to bed. I'll let Trinea know in the morning what's going on, and we'll figure out what to do from there, okay?" He smiled warmly, hoping to reassure the young woman in his arms.
Kal'theraa nodded and pulled back, drying her eyes on the back of her hand. "Thank you, big brother," she murmured, leaning in to kiss Mal'valen's cheek before turning to leave without another word.
The Priest opened his bedroom door and sighed, turning to watch Kal'theraa leave. She was distraught, that was certain. Still, he knew in his heart that Nuhwoti would be all right. Somehow, the happy-go-lucky, Light-loving Druid always pulled through.
"... I hope..." he murmured, then closed the door behind him and headed back to bed to rest.
