There's a lot of 'em, but my personal favorite is:
Total RP 2. It's got a ton of customizing options and doesn't feel like a huge resource hog on my already laggy computer. There are lots of fun sliders, items creation, and even quest creation. I honestly could go on and on about how awesome this addon is, but odds are good folks don't want to hear that. I'll let it speak for itself. It's one disadvantage, IMO, is that it has a tiny bit of a learning curve since there's so many options. The fortunate thing is that the addon seems to have been translated far more thoroughly into English than its predecessor, and all it takes is a basic understanding of how addons work in general and a bit of common sense to figure things out. For those that need help, there's a handy guide built right into the addon.

I'd be remiss to not talk about the other RP addons out there, even if I -do- think they're sub-par.
Firstly, we've got flagrsp2. Advantages: Simple, no nonsense interface. Pretty intuitive. EVERYBODY uses it. Disadvantages: Lacking some fun/interesting features. Uses up a custom chat channel. If you forget to hit Okay after typing your description, it goes bye-bye, which is something that's happened to me very often.

Secondly is MyRoleplay, more commonly known as MRP. My understanding is that this addon has gone the way of no channel, which I suppose is an advantage. As I haven't tried it in at least a couple of years, I can't comment on my like or dislike of it. All I know for sure is that it was the first to allow for backgrounds in character descriptions and got a whole lot of roleplayers into some awful habits.

Along comes ImmersionRP, or more simply IRP. I used to use this one religiously, up until I found the wonder that is TRP (now TRP2). The interface is pretty, easy to use, and fairly intuitive. I really like it a lot, and would consider it second best of all the description addons out there. One of my favorite parts about IRP is it's ability to be turned off with a simple click of the mouse, a very handy thing when running randoms or the like. HUGE disadvantage: IRP has still not been updated for Cataclysm. I don't know if it works as it is or not, but that's pretty much a dealbreaker for me.
Regardless, if you want to try it out, IRP can be found here: www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info10273-ImmersionRPContinued.html#info
Lastly we have Mary Sue. No, not...pretty much every idiot you see wandering Silvermoon or Stormwind. This is the first addon for RP descriptions that claims low resource use and does not use a chat channel to give descriptions. I have never tried it, ever, but I'll list it regardless. Mary Sue, of course, is also not updated for Cata.
